When God created the earth he had a plan. He knew how and what to do first. He didn't create the birds and fish before he had an ocean or trees to put them in. Like wise we need to have a plan for our lives. When I think of plans I also think of building a house. Just as Gods plan was to create the earth first before the plants and animals, we can't put the roof on our house until the walls are up and we have a sure foundation.
The foundation is one of the first steps in our plan. It is what everything else is built upon. The foundation for our lives should be Christ. Why do we need Christ as our sure foundation? If your life is centered on Christ it will inspire you and direct your life in a certain way. A sure foundation will ensure stability during the stress of daily use and storms of adversity.
In the Book of Mormon, we are taught that Jesus Christ should be the foundation for our lives. Helaman said, “Remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation...which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fail.” (Helaman 5:12)
Christ has given us a perfect example to follow. We need Christ because we have all sinned and his blood can cleanse us from our sins. It is through him that we can be resurrected and return to live with our Heavenly Father.
In this life we will have times of joy and happiness and times of sorrow and trials. But we are promised that if we build our lives on Jesus Christ, the sure foundation, we will not fall when the winds blow and the rains beat down. In D&C 6:34 it says “Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail.”
May we get to know our Savior better and plan to build our lives upon his rock. Exercise faith, pray, study and learn of Him. May our foundations be strong so that when adversity comes we stand and not fall is my prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
